The Transhumance is the seasonal movement of livestock between the plains in winter and the mountain pastures in summer. Two flocks are herded through Montpeyroux - one passes the gates of A Place In The Vines and the other stops and spends the night in the centre of the village. The movement from the Herault plains to the Larzac causses usually takes place in mid June and the return is usually in October. The sheep are adorned with bells and the local schools often make coloured decorations. In Montpeyroux it is often an excuse for a village celebration that, naturally includes local wine!
